Chelsea Manning shared a photo of herself a day after being released from prison.
The whistle-blower debuted her new look on her social media accounts on Thursday after seven years behind bars. Former President Barack Obama commuted her sentence before leaving office in January.
Manning was sentenced to 35 years in prison in 2013 for providing WikiLeaks with a massive amount of sensitive government documents. She was heralded as a heroic whistle-blower by some and a traitor by others.
That same year, Manning came out as transgender and shared with the world that she identified as a woman named Chelsea, “request[ing]that … you refer to me by my new name and use the feminine pronoun.”
During her time in prison, Manning attempted suicide twice, and was sentenced to solitary confinement for one of the attempts in late 2016.
