The $6 Wine Voted Best in the World is Now in the U.S.

Try and get hold of this world-beater while you can.

You’ve probably been thinking about very little else since you heard about it.

You’ve likely been repeating its name over and over again, while people at Starbucks have stared at you with a mixture of worry and pity.

La Moneda Reserva Malbec was won the Platinum Best In Show at the Decanter World Wine Awards.

This was extraordinary as the wine retails for around $6 and a few cents. Yes, less than some coffees at Starbucks these days.

Infuriatingly at the time, it was only available at the Asda supermarket in the UK.

Still, it was described as slathering “succulent juicy berries on the palate.”

Oh, and let’s not forget the “freshly crushed black fruit, creamy vanilla yogurt and pepper spice.”

It sounds like a frou-frou starter dish at an overpriced San Francisco restaurant, doesn’t it?

Americans, though, were clamoring to get hold of this fine wine, so that they could sample the delights of 12 bottles for the price of one overly-fruity American Cabernet.

Now they can.

I’d heard rumors that the La Moneda had arrived on our shores.

I’d heard even even louder rumors that it was at Walmart.

And then I heard these pulsating words from a Walmart spokeswoman: “The wine was sent to stores through Northern and Southern California. We do have wine still available in stores.”

I am awaiting confirmation as to which particular stores have bottles on their shelves and I will update this when I hear.

I know, however, that your gills are pulsating and your spreadsheet would desperately love to achieve less strain in planning your holiday carousing.

I fear that some Walmarts will suddenly enjoy the same sort of freshly-crushed fisticuffs normally reserved for Black Friday.
