It turns out that Sarah Jessica Parker watched a different version of “Sex and the City” than the rest of us.
“They would just show me final rough cuts so I could just give notes because they knew how much I did not like to look,” Parker said of her days on set, where she served as both star and producer.
Fast forward 16 years later to her current role on the new HBO show “Divorce,” and Parker still thinks reviewing her own scenes is the hardest part of her role as producer.
“I don’t enjoy watching myself at all,” she said while promoting the series at an AOL Build Series talk on Thursday. “I really would rather not.”
As a result of her one gripe on the job, Parker even called on Thursday’s AOL Build audience to jog her memory about a certain “Sex and the City” scene and Carrie Bradshaw outfit.
“There was a wedding right? In Season 1, [characters Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte and Samantha]were all really bitter and stood in the corner, does anyone remember a wedding?” she said. “Like I said, I’ve only seen these episodes once basically. But I just remember when they were all wearing black, am I making that up?”
The fragrance purveyor, shoe maven and now little black dress designer says her favorite part of her TV gigs is “the collaborative part, and the work sessions with the writers, so that doesn’t seem to be complicated for me at all.”
“Divorce” debuts Oct. 9 on HBO and also stars Thomas Haden Church and Molly Shannon.
